Athletes who are performing at a world class level are considered elite. This category of athletes will likely include, but is not limited to, professional and/or Olympic athletes. These are individuals who have made personal choice to become elite and have a year-round focus on one particular sport. The improvements in these athlete’s performance tends to slow down, meaning the focus is on fine tuning specific areas of performance. The level of focus and dedication become more susceptible to injury as well as psychological abuse by both parents and coaching staff. Working with elite athletes has given me the opportunity understand what’s at stake, how they measure themselves against the world, and that they are just as human as anyone else.
